Privacy policy
Effective October 1, 2026
Baby Formula Calculator is built to know as little about you as possible. There’s no account, no ads, no tracking and no cookies, and your list stays on your device.
This policy covers the Baby Formula Calculator website (babyformulacalculator.com), the web app (app.babyformulacalculator.com) and the iPhone app. “We” and “us” mean Baby Formula Calculator.
The short version
- Your list, prices, feeding plan and settings stay on your device. We never get a copy.
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no cookies.
- The camera is used only while the scanner is open, and pictures never leave your device.
- When you scan a barcode the app doesn’t know, only that barcode number goes to our server to look it up. It isn’t logged or stored with anything about you.
- We don’t sell or share personal information. We don’t collect it in the first place.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter is stored only on your device: the formulas, prices and stores on your list, products you add yourself, your feeding plan (including your baby’s name, birth date or weight, if you choose to enter them) and your settings.
- The web app keeps this in your browser’s storage for app.babyformulacalculator.com.
- The iPhone app keeps it in the app’s own storage on your iPhone.
We never receive a copy, and there’s no account or cloud sync to send it to.
Barcode lookups
About 490 formulas are built into the app, so most scans are answered on your device without using the internet. When you scan a barcode that isn’t built in, the app asks our server what product it is:
- The app sends only the barcode number. Nothing about you, your list or your location goes with it.
- Our server runs on Cloudflare. It doesn’t log lookups, and we’ve switched off Cloudflare’s request logs and traces for it.
- To find the product, our server may ask Open Food Facts or another product database, such as UPCitemdb or Go-UPC. They get the barcode number from our server, not from your device, so they never see your IP address or anything else about you.
- Our server remembers the answer for each barcode (the product’s name, brand and size) for up to 30 days, or 7 days if nothing was found, so the next lookup is quicker. It never remembers who asked.
- To stop abuse, our server counts lookups from each network for one minute, using a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address. The count isn’t linked to any barcode, and it’s gone after that minute.
The camera
The scanner uses your camera only while it’s open, to read barcodes. Barcodes are read on your device, and pictures are never saved or sent anywhere. If you choose From photo, the photo you pick is read on your device too, and isn’t uploaded.
The iPhone app asks for permission before it uses the camera, and you can turn camera access off at any time in the iPhone’s Settings, under Formula Calc. In a browser, the browser asks you first.
Backups and exports
When you back up your list or export your prices as a spreadsheet, the app creates a file and hands it to you (on iPhone, through the share sheet). It goes wherever you choose to save or send it, and we never see it. Importing a file reads it on your device.
This website and our host
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics or tracking scripts, and loads nothing from other companies: its fonts and pictures come from our own site. The web app is the same: no cookies, analytics or tracking.
Like every website, ours is delivered by a web host. Ours is Cloudflare, which processes technical details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We don’t keep logs of visits. Cloudflare may show us overall numbers, such as how many requests the site received, that don’t identify anyone. In rare cases, for example when it needs to check that a visitor isn’t a bot, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie.
The iPhone app
The iPhone app works the same way as the web app. Your list stays on your iPhone, and only unknown barcode numbers are sent to our server. It has no analytics, ads, crash reporting or tracking.
Apple handles downloads and updates under its own privacy policy. If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may give us combined statistics, such as the number of installs, that don’t identify you.
Links to other websites
The app and this site link to other websites, such as WIC, 211, formula makers’ rewards programs and Open Food Facts. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Children’s privacy
Baby Formula Calculator is for parents and caregivers. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Anything you enter about your baby, such as a name, birth date or weight for the feeding plan, stays on your device.
Your choices
- Delete everything at any time in the app: Settings › Delete all data. Deleting the iPhone app, or clearing the web app’s data in your browser, deletes your list too.
- Take your data with you: Settings › Back up everything, or Export prices (CSV) for a spreadsheet.
- Because we don’t keep personal information, there’s nothing on our side to look up, correct, hand over or delete. We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app or this site handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. For a significant change, such as collecting something new, we’ll also say so in the app.
